What is this black liquid dripping from elevator ceiling?

I noticed at there is a this oil-like (black/brown) substance dripping from the little opening at the ceiling of my apartment buildings elevator. Should I be worried? Is this black mold or something?|||Most likely it is just dirty lubricant. You shouldn't be worried, but you should still tell someone about it in the unlikely case that some sort lubrication system is leaking or a bearing seal is giving out.|||The hydro line has a leak , you should contact the elevator co, there should be a # on the floor panel you punch to go to all the floors.|||Yes you should be worried, actually its possible that if it is something bad, and you building does nothing about it, you can sue|||if it smells like tar, probably the ballast resistor in the light in the ceiling....

when those go bad they can smolder%26amp;catch fire|||It is a resdidue from cable grease.
