Why are black dogs considered to bring good luck by Hindus?

I have a friend who is hindu and he says in hinduism black dog is believed to bring good luck, peace and prosperity and thats why he has always kept black dog as pet.





However, there is no scientific evidence to back that. Yet I have read some books too, that many hindus consider black dogs to bring good luck.





Yet there is also black dog syndrome, which means black dog is rejected by many. From where do such beliefs originate and why?|||blk cat,blk dog, friday 13th

Why do Western cultures consider Black cats unlucky? Heck some people and cultures have viewed black dogs as unlucky. Talk to a few truckers about that one.





As far as black dog syndrome which affects large breeds more than anything that comes down to how people view dogs and how the media and movies and tv have played into that. Think about most dog that were bad or evil in a movie were black. Dobes, Rotts, etc.|||As far as I know black dogs have something to do with Astrology, Lord Shiva, and Vaastu. The black dog also fearlessly guards the way to the Otherworld. So it's like a kind of good luck charm to have one.





Black Dog Syndrome refers to the added difficulties of getting black dogs rehomed because of prejudice (some think of them as devil dogs) and that their coats appear to show the signs of ageing sooner than non-blacks.
